Popis: This chapter discusses endocrine findings in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), emphasizing the role of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis. Older findings on basal cortisol levels have largely been replicated, as have results of neuroendocrine challenge tests. The development of molecular methods to examine HPA-related genes and epigenetic and gene expression changes in PTSD have verified the centrality of glucocorticoid-related alteration in PTSD and PTSD risk and have supported that the glucocorticoid receptor may be an important target for intervention.
