Popis: This study will explore the beliefs and perspectives of UK drivers around the use of Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) in vehicles. ISA systems typically use a camera in the vehicle that can read speed limit signs and/or a satellite navigation system to assess the current speed limit. If the vehicle exceeds the speed limit, the fuel reaching the engine is cut, gently slowing the vehicle until it is travelling within the speed limit. Drivers can choose to turn the system off or override it while driving. The study will comprise a screening questionnaire to select purposive samples of drivers with ISA systems and drivers without ISA systems. Participants will complete a belief elicitation questionnaire and semi-structured interview to explore their perspectives on Intelligent Speed Assistance in-depth. This study is part of a larger project which is looking at increasing the use of ISA in UK vehicles. This larger project will develop a quantitative survey of drivers intentions to use ISA and an Theory of Planned Behaviour-based intervention to improve the take-up and use of ISA by drivers. We will also interview samples of stakeholders as part of this wider study (e.g., car manufacturers, insurers) to explore their perspectives on the most effective ways of introducing ISA systems in the UK car market.
