Popis: | We investigate the inter-particle tangential force–displacement behavior of a broad range of granular materials. The major experiments are conducted using a custom-built micromechanical loading apparatus and the emphasis of the work is placed on the microslip displacement. We show that for all the materials tested, the microslip displacement increases with the increase in normal force and that extended threshold displacements are observed for rougher and softer grains. An analytical expression proposed in the literature is modified, incorporating material micro-hardness in a normalized form, to establish an expression which can be used in micromechanical-based analysis of problems involving geological materials. |
