Popis: A safe clinical team is essential for the delivery of safe care. As care becomes more complex, integrated teamwork will ensure that the person receiving care is kept safe. This requires team learning, standardized practices, and systems thinking, that is, how the wider factors can impact on safety. Open communication is essential and the concept of psychological safety, which enables team members to raise concerns and to learn, is essential. Training in non-technical skills can enhance the team’s performance. Teams require joint training, agreed rules and sets of behaviours, as well as regular practice and simulation to ensure safe care. The co-design of solutions will facilitate shared responsibility for safety. A flexible hierarchy, with deference to the expertise of the different team members, can facilitate safe care.
