This study examines the effectiveness of two strategies, mindfulness, and cognitive reappraisal (reframing the way you think), in reducing rumination (a negative repetitive thought process) and allowing for improved regulation of one’s emotions. We hypothesize that people who are in a state of rumination will benefit from the use of mindfulness and cognitive reappraisal strategies versus the control group in regulating their emotions and stopping the rumination cycle. This study will provide further insight as to whether or not mindfulness increases or decreases rumination. Last, some individuals have difficulty using reappraisal strategies. Therefore, combining both of these strategies may produce a greater effect than using either strategy alone. |
