Popis: Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on Indonesia and the New International Economic Order. Indonesia has lent strong and loyal support to the demands for a New International Economic Order. The views of its government have been set out in a variety of official statements and documents. The chapter is a purely personal assessment, by a foreign economist, of the relevance to Indonesia of some of the more important NIEO propositions and of obstacles to their realization in the Indonesian context. Among developing as among developed countries, there are notable differences of emphasis and style on the North-South problem in general and on particular NIEO issues. Indonesian spokesmen have also warned against expecting too much from changes in the international economic system. For the less developed countries, the essential problem is how to achieve full participation in the growth of the world economy. The achievement of full participation will require more than mere improvements in the order of the world economy.
