Sulfonyl substituted cyclopropanes are formed in good yields on photolysis of p-methoxyphenylsulfonyldiazomethane in the presence of alkenes. The reaction with cis- and trans-2-butene is stereospecifically cis, which may indicate that the intermediate sulfonylcarbene reacts in its singlet spin state. |
