Popis: Pertinent current research and older observation will be brought to bear on a short list of urban metrics: network morphology permeability, legibility, and enclosure. Performance, implying as it does quantities to be measured, may not capture the indispensable mutuality upon which the community of a neighborhood depends. Such concerns are more difficult to measure but arguments, nonetheless, can be made for places to appeal to shared meaning and, even in beauty, to their inhabitants.
