Popis: | The technical literature on the solvent extraction and ion exchange recovery of iron from zinc sulphate-sulphuric acid processing media was reviewed to identify technologies which might lead to marketable iron products. The solvent extraction literature was reviewed from 1986 to the present, whereas all available information on the ion exchange route was surveyed. Although several extractants were identified that can selectively extract iron from zinc processing media, the stripping of the loaded iron into a suitably concentrated solution remains a significant challenge. When both the extraction and stripping aspects are considered, there are no commercially proven systems capable of yielding a marketable iron product from zinc sulphate-sulphuric acid processing solutions. A number of solvent extraction systems hold some promise for generating concentrated iron solutions, however, and those systems are discussed within the framework of the constraints imposed by the zinc industry. |
