Popis: A study was made on the sediment distribution of the trace metals Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn in Second Marsh located on the northern shoreline of Lake Ontario near Oshawa, Ontario. Forty surficial samples and four cores were collected from the marsh. Comparing results with other Lake Ontario marshes, Ni and Zn were higher, while Cu and Pb were comparable, and Cd somewhat lower in concentration. Metals in cores exhibited a complex distribution with depth due to past disposals of dredged materials into the marsh. Major sources of such contaminants include a sewage treatment plant, automobile-related industries, a tannery, and land disposal of sludge.
