Popis: | Emissions of ion-cyclotron-range-of-frequency (ICRF) waves have been observed in a solely electron-cyclotron-resonance-heated plasma, namely no fast-ion plasma, on the JT-60U tokamak for the first time. The mode frequencies are around the ion cyclotron frequency at the low-field-side plasma edge. The waves are considered to be electromagnetic and standing waves from poloidal and toroidal phase differences measured with ICRF antennas. Wave characteristics of the ICRF emissions such as frequency, polarization and propagation are similar to those of edge-ion cyclotron emissions (ICEs) driven by neutral-beam-injected fast ions although driving sources are completely different. From analysis of the resonance conditions, this ICRF wave emission is considered to be driven by the electron-cyclotron-resonance-heated fast electrons via the Cherenkov resonance condition. When ICE is used for fast ion diagnostics, such fast-electron-driven ICRF wave emission may complicate its interpretation during electron cyclotron resonance heating. |
