Popis: | This study was aimed to determine the effect of cow factors; breed, age, nutritional status, lactation number and stage of the cow and milk composition on freezing point depression (FPD) of milk. Unadulterated individual milk samples were collected from different cow breeds. All milk samples were tested for FPD, Milk Urea Nitrogen (MUN) and its composition. Results revealed that FPD was significantly differed (P < 0.05) with breed, age, successive lactations and nutritional status of the cow. Milk of cross bred cows showed the higher FPD compared to pure breeds. Freezing point depression increased (P < 0.05) with age and lactation number of the cow but higher MUN significantly (P < 0.05) lowered the FPD. Milk composition significantly affected (P < 0.05) the FPD. Average FPD was gradually decreased with solid nonfat, lactose and protein percentages in milk. Therefore, it concluded that, cow factors and some of the milk constituents alter the FPD of cow milk. |
