Popis: Urbanization is experiencing an accelerated development due to population growth and social metabolism. Since society needs nature to produce and consume, transforming matter and energy entropically has generated socio-environmental inequalities and pollution. For this research, we propose two biophysical indicators as methods to measure socio-environmental problems: 1) Analysis of Material Flows (AMF) and 2) Ecological Rucksack (ER) to quantify the flows of the leading materials involved in the construction process of urbanization. As a result, we found poor materials management, waste generation, and consequent environmental pollution. Finally, we recommended that managing these indicators (AFM and ER) at design levels of urbanization could anticipate the difficulties that these generate in the environment. In addition, modelling future scenarios can be helpful to improve relations with nature and reduce socio-environmental impacts.
