Popis: | Deep oil and gas pools are increasingly important, and particular importance attaches to forecasting hydrocarbon-fluid phase states and compositions at depths greater than 4 km. Two lines of theoretical approach may be followed: one relating to the organic matter that can generate these fluids at depth, and the second to the preservation of former pools, which involves transformation as the depth increases and the temperature and pressure rise. Using the Caspian and Timan-Pechora basins as examples, the authors show that simple depth-dependent models of hydrocarbon generation are inadequate and that a variety of factors must be considered in forecasting types to hydrocarbon. |
