Popis: | This paper examines the socioeconomic impact of youth unemployment, underemployment, and labor underutilization in the sugar belt area of Jamaica up to the mid-1980s. The narrow economic base of the mid-Clarendon plain and the sharply limited employment opportunities experienced there forced youths to adopt a range of survival strategies. Five distinct employment-seeking stages resulted, forming a unique combination of worker traits and the labor market environment. These stages are identified and analyzed. |
