Popis: Two-phase self-lubricating composites have been produced by ( a) hot-pressing mixtures of powders, ( b) flame-spraying mixtures of powders, and ( c) vacuum impregnation of a porous matrix using a molten lubricant. Impact strength of the bulk composites and friction and wear behaviour of all composites has been determined at 400°C in a dry carbon dioxide atmosphere. Composites produced from lubricant powder pre-coated with nickel by hot-pressing or flame-spraying appear most promising. A simple model has been proposed for the wear of two-phase composite materials.
