Popis: SEDATING EFFECTS OF HUMULUS LUPULUS L. EXTRACTSAlthough extracts from HUMULUS LUPULUS are traditionally used as sedating drugs, very few pharmacological studies have so far been performed. Ethanolic and CO 2 extracts from HUMULUS LUPULUS were tested for sedating activity in mice. Dosedependent reduction of locomotor activity and an increase in narcotica-induced sleep duration were observed, confirming sedation, whereas no indication of anxiolytic activity was seen in the Elevated Plus Maze test. The β-bitter acids were identified as the most effective constituens, but β-bitter acids and hop oil also proved to have a sedating effect.
