Popis: This chapter discusses a sustainable manufacturing strategy for composite materials using an out-of-autoclave (OOA) process. The OOA process is becoming increasing popular, especially in aerospace applications, as the alternative solution to produce structural components compared to using a conventional autoclave process. OOA provides notable advantages in terms of the design for sustainability perspective which reduces the amount of energy consumed during manufacturing and in return reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, OOA also offers economic advantages to produce components at lower cost by enabling a shorter process life cycle time and lower capital as well as tooling investment when compared to an autoclave-based composites manufacturing process. Among the topics included in this chapter are an introduction to the OOA process and review of recent works about the OOA process involving composite materials. Furthermore, a case study on the application of an OOA process to produce an aircraft composite seat pan is also included, to provide a practical example of how the process is applied and its resulting performance toward the mechanical properties of the end product.
