Popis:	This paper discusses and describes the external mode library and information science program at Riverina-Murray Institute of Higher Education, Wagga Wagga, Australia. Teaching reference work at Riverina-Murray Institute is specifically examined and the practical component of reference work in the external mode is given particular attention. Problems associated with teaching reference work at a distance are discussed and the paper concludes with some views on the future of teaching via this mode.
