Popis: | The growth characteristics of the fetal thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands of the West African dwarf (WAD) goat were studied in order to provide other possible approaches to the assessment of the pathological and physiological role of these glands during pregnancy in the goat. The study involved 25 pregnant WAD does and 58 fetuses. The animals were maintained on a standard farm ration and the fetuses harvested by caesarean section at 30, 60, 90, 120 and 140 days of gestation. An exponential growth model was used in the analysis of the data which were subjected to multiple linear regression to obtain the daily growth rate and maximal rate of increase of the variables studied. The results showed a significant (P |
