This chapter discusses my growth over the past 5 years from a floundering new professor to somewhat more seasoned methods prof. I will explain how I moved on from an awful first semester teaching methods by incorporating listening as a key component of my teaching philosophy, as well as how I determined that Excel was perhaps the most important thing I could teach in this course, both for the statistics work I wanted my students to achieve and as a skill that transfers to almost any job I can imagine. These decisions have paid dividends for both me and, more importantly, my students. |
