In Fig. 1 we depict schematically a modem optical setup for performing Zernike's three-slits interference experiment1.This three-slits experiment was designed for exploiting the high sensitivity to miss-focus in the detection plane. In otherwords, the irradiance distribution of the three-slits is modulated in a different ways, depending on the defocusing position (z>O)of the detection plane.Our aim here is to present a method for obtaining, through the use of geometrical rays, the irradiance distributioncaused by the three-slits.
