Popis: | The retina is the mirror of the mind. Through this complex layer pass all the visual images we perceive. The retina is divided into various anatomic and functional areas so that a tiny lesion in the macula lutea may visually cripple a patient while a massive, gradual loss of peripheral retinal tissue may go unnoticed. Certain diseases have a predilection for the central retinal area like diabetes, while others tend to the peripheral retina such as sickle cell disease. Both of these entities produce retinopathy and neovascularization. A large number of generalized diseases may be manifested in the retina besides ocular pathology. |
