In this study, we present a methodology for optimization of golf club shaft design. Shaft characteristics are considered for different player’s preference, such as flexural and torsional stiffness, kick-point and natural frequency. For the case of composite-material shaft manufactured by sheet lamination process, the optimal layer orientation, stacking sequence and shaft-taper angle are sought to meet the various range of required characteristics. As an optimization tool, genetic algorithm is applied with the stacking sequence and taper angle as design variables. |
