The association between orthodontics and orthognathic surgery is commonly indicated to treat patients with dentofacial deformities. In this context, the accelerated tooth movement phenomenon after orthognathic surgery has been observed. We may say that the reduction of treatment duration is one of the greatest advantages of this phenomenon. However, the scientific evidence about this topic is still unclear. Therefore, the main purpose of this scoping review is to systematically search the literature about the acceleration of orthodontic tooth movement after orthognathic surgery aiming to answer the following question: Is the orthodontic tooth movement accelerated after orthognathic? surgery? |
