Popis: This paper provides guidance for others to master the elaborately complex technique of plastic embedding, including details in all steps toward high-quality castings. There are many pitfalls in the processes of plastic embedding, and these are discussed. Each pitfall is coupled with preventive/corrective procedures to remedy the problem. The tremendous variability in obtaining professional-quality castings on a regular basis is a product of the fact that embedding is an art rather than a science. Experimental work is highly encouraged. With practice, any object can be embedded. Although this paper emphasizes brain tissue embedding, it covers the preservation, staining, and embedding of all objects, dry and hydrated, organic and inorganic. Dry organic and dry inorganic are the easiest to work with. Hydrated objects are much more complex and demand dehydration before casting. The complete procedure from the equipment needed to the finished product is discussed. Careful observance of the details described will provide good quality results in plastic embedding. Trans. Kans.
