Popis: | Elevated levels of oxidative stress (OxS) may be associated with respiratory diseases. We tested the distribution of biomarkers of OxS in subjects with current, past asthma and chronic bronchitis (CB) in respect to subjects free of respiratory diseases. The data were collected in the Genes Environment Interaction in Respiratory Diseases, multicase-control survey. Urine biomarkers 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-29-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG) and 8-isoprostane, as well as Fraction of exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO)were determined over the cases of current asthma (n=374), past asthma (n=177), CB (n=188) and the controls (n=476). The association of respiratory diseases with OxS biomarkers was investigated with logistic regression analysis adjusting for sex, age and centre. As compared with controls, subjects with current asthma had significantly higher levels of FeNO, patients with past asthma and CB had increased level of urinary 8-isoprostane. These results were confirmed by the logistic regression with significantly higher level of FeNO in patients with current asthma (p Increased levels of FeNO were found in asthma patients and of 8-isoprostane in subjects with past asthma and in those with CB. |
