Popis: | An instrument is described which measures the mechanical shear impedance of liquids in the frequency range 20-100 kHz. It operates through the magnetostrictively induced motion of a thin walled tube. Compared with earlier devices using piezoelectric transducers it is more robust and versatile and the use of tubes allows the sensitivity to be increased by an order of magnitude. The necessary theory is given for the damped torsional motion of an infinitely long homogeneous isotropic tube immersed in a viscoelastic liquid. |
