This work investigates, through a case study, the implications of effective utilization of renewable energy sources for addressing the power demands at Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge technologies (RGUKT)-Nuzvid. Effect of industrialization and change in living style of people, the demand for electricity is increasing at 7% per annum in India. However, Indian power sector has been registering the considerable growth in power generation since the last decade. Transmission & distribution losses are playing crucial role in efficient power transmission in India [3]. How can we address these issues simultaneously? Deployment of renewable sources at individual loads is the reliable method for addressing the power crisis issues, transmission and distribution losses, and mitigation of greenhouse-gases. The method of addressing power demand at individual loads will have the positive impact on Indian power sector in near future. A case study has carried out at RGUKT, Nuzvid campus. The supply and load details of the campus were analyzed. Impact of harnessing renewable sources on overall consumption at load center was discussed. Potential of Solar rooftop system and bio-gas were assessed. Based on the assessment, it was observed that, there is a possibility to establish a 2.79 MW solar roof-top system, 1500 m3 biogas plant inside the campus for addressing the power demands. The results have shown that with the proposed method the anticipated energy deficiency in Andhra Pradesh for 2015–16 would reduce to 11.96%. |
