This paper presents the research in the strategies for teaching industry-specific English/German terminology to students majoring in engineering areas. According to the Russian educational standards, foreign languages are taught within the first 4-5 terms, while students start studying their industry-specific disciplines in their fifth term or even later. Accordingly, students learning English or German as their foreign language are not ready to perceive special terminology in those languages, just because they do not know it in their native Russian language. Herewith, we are trying to partly solve this problem proposing some strategies that would help introduce special terms in a foreign language in the first year of studies already. Some results are presented regarding the students’ “before” and “after” performance in learning industry-specific terminology in the above languages. |
