Popis: Teaching rimes—spelling patterns such as -ate, -ile, and -ake—is a valuable approach to phonics instruction because they are more consistent than many of the phonics rules often taught. Furthermore, research shows that children figure out new words by thinking of similar words they already know. Lessons on common rimes during shared reading help readers learn the rime and use this knowledge to identify new words. Steps for shared reading lessons are included.
