Popis: HCl (υ = 1) collisional relaxation rates have been measured for a number of polyatomic collision partners. The data suggest that for the polyatomic hydride (RH) species tested, the energy transfer proceeds via a vibration to vibration mechanism. The relaxation efficiencies of RCl species with lone pair or π electrons correlate well with the basicities of particular groups within the molecules.
