Popis: | The development of crystallinity in essentially amorphous polyethylene terephthalate film following immersion in a range of organic liquids at 25°C has been studied. The rate of development of crystallinity varies markedly with the liquid and although molecular size of the liquid may be a contributory factor it is not the only one. Both the equilibrium degree of crystallinity and swelling of the film vary with the liquid and in a similar manner and it would seem that polarity, type and solubility parameter of the liquid are important factors governing both equilibrium crystallinity and swelling. It is suggested that solvation of the polymer occurs and that interaction of solvated polymer and liquid leads to conditions favourable to crystallization. |
