The space radiation environment does not present extreme obstacles to the power community. However, it can present a number of problems that can ruin a mission if they are not addressed during the design stages. This paper presents the natural proton environment in space, and summarizes recent work in several areas of proton radiation effects. The paper emphasizes the energy dependence of single event upset and proton‐induced displacement damage. There is a brief discussion of a method of presenting the combined space and reactor radiation environments useful for comparison with device radiation specifications. |
