Popis: | Ludwig’s angina is a rapidly evolving cellulite originated from dental infection that involves the primary spaces of the mandible bilaterally; it represents high severity. It is clinically characterized by volumetric increase in submandibular, sublingual, and submentonian facial spaces. A 41-year-old male patient attended at the hospital with fever, disoriented, with extensive erythematous tumor in the cervical region, and reported to have undergone tooth extraction. The patient was admitted to the intensive care unit with diagnosis of Ludwig’s angina and necrotizing descending mediastinitis. He underwent broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotic medication, orotracheal intubation, cervical and thoracic drainage, and plastic surgery for cervical wound closure. At the oral exam we observed dental infection and poor periodontal condition. Dental extractions and periodontal treatment were performed in the intensive care unit. Patient is out of risk and continues in follow-up. |
