Popis: With a focus on Japan, we replicate a study recently published in the flagship journal of political science (Allen, M. A., Flynn, M. E., MacHain, C. M., & Stravers, A. 2020. “Outside the Wire: U.S. Military Deployments and Public Opinion in Host States.” American Political Science Review, Volume 114, Issue 2, pages 326–341). Specifically, we examine how attitudes toward the U.S. military presence in Japan are different between people in Okinawa, a very small prefecture hosting the bulk of the U.S. military facilities in Japan, and people in other prefectures. Also, based on a conjoint experiment, we investigate Japanese citizens’ Not-in-my-back-yard (NIMBY) attitudes toward the military facilities within Japan.
