Popis: A core aim of occupational therapy practice is to create and facilitate opportunities for people to engage in meaningful occupations and, in doing so, promote health and wellbeing. A pair of occupational therapy students was assigned to a project to support the development of children’s emotional, behavioural and school readiness skills in a kindergarten setting. A population health perspective involves changing the focus of occupational therapy from individuals to populations, and considering all of the factors that influence a population’s health and wellbeing. Health promotion deals with implementing strategies at a local, regional and national level to instil health lifestyle habits among individuals and communities. ‘Health’ is a familiar term that is often used in everyday communication. A combination of factors, called determinants, influencing the health of individuals and populations. Determinants that have a positive influence on health are called protective factors, and those that have a negative influence on health are called risk factors.
