Popis: | Radiotherapy is a common treatment modality for cancer. In patients with cancer and implanted cardiac electrotherapy devices, radiotherapy may however interfere with the operation of these devices. In severe cases, this malfunction can lead to irreparable damage to such devices, which requires their replacement. Experience has shown that, with appropriate treatment conditions and safety procedures in place, the risk of radiotherapy causing such disturbances in patients with implantable cardiac devices is low. The rules for managing oncology patients with implantable devices during radiotherapy were included in the latest guidelines published by the European Society of Cardiology concerning cardiac pacing and resynchronization therapy. |
