Mapping of Vp/Vs and Qs/Qp ratios is very important to detect fractured and permeability zones in geothermal exploration fields. Hydraulic or stimulation fracturing during a geothermal cycle leads to induced micro-seismic events which may be too small to be felt on the surface. However, high sensitivity seismometers can detect seismic waves radiated by such events. In this study, we determined Vp/Vs ratio structures using aseismic tomography method. We used P-and S-wave arrival times of micro-seismic events occurring before and after injection stimulation. We then calculated Qs/Qp structures to enhance our understanding about the subsurface geological structures. We used high quality micro-seismic waveforms in order to determine the Qs/Qp structures through a seismic tomography approach. Our results show prominent high Vp/Vs (with moderate low Vp, low Vs) and low Qs/Qp zones close to the bottom of an injection well. Previous studies suggested that high Vp/Vs values are correlated with high pore fluid pressure and low Qs/Qp values are associated with completely fluid saturation. Therefore, the physical parameters resulting from this study can be used for delineation of fractured and permeable zones. |
