This chapter aims to provide the reader, (who may have little knowledge of and experience in psychotherapeutic work with clients), with a brief overview of two of the brief psychological therapies that might be used with those experiencing the more common mental health problems. Namely, interpersonal Psychotherapy which may be used when working with clients experiencing non-psychotic depression, and Solution-Focused Therapy which, while moving away from the idea of ‘problems’ and towards generating ‘solutions’ as its name implies, may be used with clients experiencing common mental health difficulties such as depression and anxiety. The chapter begins by exploring some of the core components that are requisite to all effective therapeutic practices and progresses to providing a brief explanation of the therapies themselves. |
