Popis: | Negative ion laser mass spectra of many aromatic nitro compounds show formation of an ion corresponding to (M + O - H)/sup -/ formed by an ion-molecule reaction. It was established that interaction of NO/sub 2//sup -/ with neutral molecules is responsible for formation of (M + O - H)/sup -/. The presence of substituents like -Cl and -SO/sub 2//sup -/ in aromatic nitro compounds leads to formation of (M + O - Cl)/sup -/ and (M + O - SO/sub 2/Na)/sup -/, respectively. The presence of labile hydrogens (-OH, -COOH, -NH-) causes intense (M - H)/sup -/ peaks, suppressing (M + O - H)/sup -/ ion formation. Use of defocused laser conditions (30 /sup +/m above the sample) is essential to obtain reproducible production of (M + O - H)/sup -/. Formation of molecular anions (M/sup -./) was observed when the laser was focused directly onto thin (approx. 0.1 ..mu..m) films. The intensity of the molecular anions was highly sensitive to both laser focus position and sample thickness. |
