Popis: | HBO's May 1997 special presentation Weapons of Mass Distraction, a scathingly dark satire written by Larry Gelbart, portrayed two megalomaniacal media titans vying with each other for more acquisitions and power and, of course, more profits. In the course of the moguls' viciously gleeful monopoly game, real people lost their real jobs, as companies merged and downsized, while characters were depicted happily mesmerized, watching what the media barons continued to feed them: “a steady diet of the titillating and the inconsequential,” as one of the fictional characters, seemingly modeled after the real-life Rupert Murdoch, so succinctly put it. |
