Popis: COVID-19 regulations have posed challenges for long-term care (LTC). However, few studies have examined how such regulations influenced the care of residents living with dementia. Our objective was to gain an understanding of LTC administrative leaders’ perceptions regarding the impact of the COVID-19 response on this population. Using the convoys of care framework, we conducted a qualitative descriptive study. Forty-three participants, representing 60 LTC facilities, completed one interview where they described how COVID-19 policies shaped care for residents living with dementia. Results from deductive thematic analysis revealed that participants believed the care convoys of residents living with dementia were strained. Participants emphasized how diminished family involvement, increased staff responsibilities, and the industry’s heightened regulatory climate contributed to disrupted care. Further, they highlighted how pandemic-focused safety guidelines did not always consider the unique needs of those living with dementia. Consequently, this study may inform policy by outlining considerations for future emergencies.
