Purpose – This study aims to determine whether the job stress experienced by healthcare workers during the Covid-19 Pandemic affects their intention to stay at work through job satisfaction and to determine which factors lead to job stress. Design/methodology/approach - The mixed analysis method, which includes both quantitative and qualitative analysis methods, was used for the study, and the questionnaire method was preferred among the primary data collection methods for quantitative analysis. For qualitative analysis, semi-standardized interview technique, one of the data collection methods, was used. The sample of the study consists of healthcare professionals in private hospitals in Konya. 633 health workers participated in the study for quantitative analysis and 13 for qualitative analysis. Findings - As a result of the quantitative research, it was determined that the job stress experienced by healthcare workers negatively affected their job satisfaction, in addition job satisfaction positively affected the intention to stay at work, and job stress negatively affected the intention to stay at work through mediation effect of job satisfaction. In qualitative analysis, 13 factors that affect work stress positively and negatively were found. While the only factor that reduces job stress by negatively affecting it is team spirit and work, the first factor that positively affects and increases it (according to the frequency of coding) is mobbing. Discussion – The health sector is one of the sectors where work stress is intense. It is an undeniable reality that especially during the pandemic period, the sector employees were affected by work stress. Increasing work stress negatively affects job satisfaction and employees want to leave their jobs due to decreased job satisfaction. However, as stated in the results of the study, although the intention of employees to remain at work is negatively affected due to the increase in job stress and decreased satisfaction, it is a reality that should not be overlooked that employees do not want to leave their jobs due to economic reasons. |
