This paper demonstrates the multifunction capabilities of a two stage grid interfaced solar photovoltaic (PV) system with a battery energy storage support (BESS). The maximum power extracted from the solar PV array through incremental conductance is fed to the grid and the load. The battery is incorporated in the system with a bidirectional converter performing charging and discharging operation to stabilize the power dynamics of the system. The fundamental component extraction of the load current through an adaptive filter technique helps in achieving unity power factor operation, reactive power compensation and harmonics elimination. Depending upon the environmental conditions, different modes of operation are identified and demonstrated. The system is designed for the peak power of 4.5 kW and is connected to a nonlinear diode bridge rectifier load. The experimental results of the proposed system and control are presented for validation of the work. |
