POST-FIRE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF SM570 HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL

Popis: An experimental study was performed to explore the mechanical properties of high-strength SM570 steel after fire. Test coupons were exposed to elevated temperatures varying from 200°C to 1000°C in the increments of 100°C. After that, the test coupons were cooled to room temperature with water or in air. Tension test and Leeb hardness test were performed to determine mechanical properties and hardness of the coupons after fire. The test results showed that the elastic modulus of the coupons cooled in air after heating were only slightly affected by the heating temperature. The mechanical properties of the coupons heated under 600°C were insignificantly changed for both cooling methods. When the coupons were heated above 700°C, the elevated temperature and cooling method greatly affected the mechanical properties of the high-strength SM570 steel after fire. Leeb hardness test revealed that the reduction factors of Leeb hardness were quite the same as those of the tensile strength when the coupons were heated at elevated temperatures and then cooled in air.
