The planning of endoscopic and/or endonasal microendoscopic surgery requires a close association between the clinical data and the methods and results of image investigation. Knowledge of anatomy and of anatomical variations through direct vision, as in computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), constitutes the first steps in this investigation. The purpose of this chapter is to demonstrate the anatomical aspects most relevant for surgical procedure and to exemplify situations in which an anatomical variation can be either a predisposing factor for inflammatory disease or a cause of nasal obstruction [5,15,23,27]. |
