| Popis: | Jean-Léon Gérôme was a French painter and sculptor, associated with numerous artistic movements (from Neo-Greek to Orientalism). This contribution offers a review of the author's works that portrayed Napoleon Bonaparte's experience in Egypt. The aim of the article is to demonstrate that Gérôme's work, contextualised in early 19th century France, and his choice to portray a general and emperor who traced profound changes in European History, is emblematic of art's capacity to transform power into image.
