Evaluation of LED illumination for dental instruments

Popis:	White LEDs offer many advantages for use in dental instruments compared to the halogen light sources presently used. However, such LEDs have a very different spectral power distribution than halogen light sources. Therefore, the colour rendering properties of such LEDs have to be evaluated. The CIE colour rendering index is not suitable for this purpose so, in this study, a white LED designed for dental instruments was evaluated using the CIE ▵EL*a*b*2000 method and colour samples representative of teeth. From this evaluation, it is concluded that white LEDs have an advantage compared to halogen light sources for tooth colour evaluation by dentists.
