Painting an ethnographic portrait of the Immortelle Children’s Centre today, this chapter highlights the strong emphasis on personal relationships and community values that mark the character of the school. The current teachers describe being motivated by love of the children, while struggling to meet challenges of low salaries, curriculum adaptation, and limited personnel and material resources. The chapter includes teachers’ narratives and detailed ethnographic illustrations of classroom practices and teacher-student interactions. |
